Why Orthodontics?
Dr. Ryan Cox truly loves orthodontics and made the decision to become an orthodontist at the age of 13! He even spent his high school and college years working for the orthodontist who straightened his own teeth.
His drive and focus recently earned him membership into the elite Schulman Study Group, which is reserved for the top 1% of orthodontists in the nation.

Passionate about continuing education, Dr. Cox knows that only by furthering his knowledge and understanding of current orthodontic treatments, options, and techniques he can provide his patients with the best orthodontic care.
He’s a member of multiple study clubs and regularly attends orthodontic conferences and symposiums.
Professional Excellence
Directly out of residency at the age of 29, Dr. Cox became one of the youngest orthodontists to become Board Certified. Board Certification is an honor that only 25% of all orthodontists ever achieve, and there are only two offices in Rome with this level of certification.
Shortly after joining our practice, Dr. Cox published two scholarly articles in orthodontic literature from his MRI research project in Ulm, Germany. With this achievement, he began providing continuing education courses for his peers, earning him a position as an Adjunct Faculty member at the UAB Hospital Department of Orthodontics.
Over the past two years, Dr. Cox has had four patients selected to showcase their perfect smiles on the cover of the AJO-DO, which is the most prestigious Journal in Orthodontics. He has also been asked to lecture to orthodontists at the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Schulman Group meeting, and the Impact 360 orthodontic meetings.
In 2017, he was given the honor of becoming the president of the Georgia Damon Study Club.
Personal Life
Raised in Alpharetta, GA, Dr. Cox now calls Rome his home. He and his wife, Amy, have a daughter, Addie Kate, and a son, Anderson.
While his favorite times are those spent with his family, Dr. Cox also avidly pursues outdoor activities, including fly-fishing, hunting, golf, mountain biking at Berry College, and Georgia Football.
Dr. Cox has been on seven dental mission trips to Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Lima, Peru providing dental care and treatment to underserved populations. He also provides free dental care at the Free Clinic of Rome for people in our community that cannot afford dental care.
In 2014, Dr. Cox formed Smiles for a Lifetime in Northwest Georgia to provide free-of-charge orthodontic care to individuals living in poverty. He is also on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia as well as the SAC of Northwest Georgia.
A little-known fact about Dr. Cox? He is a Varsity Letterman at the University of Georgia for cheerleading, which means he can do backflips to celebrate his patients’ new smiles!
